One of my favorite books in the world is The Lazy Genius by Kendra Adachi. It is an amazing “self-help” book with the tagline, “Be a genius about things that matter and lazy about things that don’t”- can’t go wrong with that right? Kendra also has a blog and podcast and does a quarterly episode titled “What’s saving my life right now.” It’s a favorite each time I listen because Kendra talks about the things that make her life easier RIGHT NOW and it can be as simple as a 17 minute nap or meal planning. It’s a nice reminder that you have things in your life that do make your life easier, even if you don’t realize it at the moment.

So- inspired by the Lazy Genius Queen herself- here is my own list of ‘What’s Saving My Life Right Now’ and I hope you get some inspiration to take what you need (and ditch what you don’t).

1. Colleen Hoover

I am OBSESSED with everything Colleen Hoover writes (the one exception is Layla- I’m about half-way through and I cannot get into it). I read each of her books in about 3 days, then promptly buy another on my Kindle. I can’t get enough. If you are a reader you know that reading is such a welcomed escape from real life and Colleen Hoover’s books are the best mix of romance, twists and cliffhangers.

2. My Student Teacher

I know people have had mixed experiences with student teachers. Some are great, some are rough. Mine this semester is FANTASTIC. It makes me hopeful for the upcoming generation of teachers because she is confident, knowledgeable and willing to take feedback. This is my first experience with a student teacher and I think I’m obsessed. The experience has taught me how much I love teaching teachers, and would love to teach college one day!

White nails

Full transparency- I do sell them. BUT- it’s only because I started using them and fell in love. Red Aspen nails are salon quality press-on nails that are beautiful and comfortable at a fraction of the cost. I don’t have the budget to get my nails done every 2 weeks, but now I can and it makes me feel so much more put together. It sounds strange that one thing can make such a difference but it really does! Teachers and moms tend to put themselves last and this is like the thing that is “my thing” that I do each week to get myself ready (they do last 2 weeks on average, but I like to change them weekly because I like the change).

4. Self Care Sunday

Cliche I know. HOWEVER, the last couple weeks I haven’t been able to get my time in on Sunday and the week has just felt flustered. On that day I fill my medicine holders, change my nails, shower and do a face mask. My husband and I also have it in our routine to fold all the laundry that night (not exactly self care- but man does it throw off the week if it doesn’t get done). I just feel more put together for the week and it makes life so much easier. I also get to catch up on whatever chick flick show or movie I’m watching that week that my husband won’t watch with me!

5. Pill Organizer

This is a really simple thing- but I swear it makes my life 10x easier. I take a lot of supplements for different reasons, but every sunday I organize them into my pill organizer. It splits it for morning and night and by day. If I don’t do this each week, I legit forget to take things and it’s pretty annoying.

6. Couch Cushions

Winter sucks. Cold weather sucks. But luckily my kids have been super into removing ALL the couch cushions and making their own “playground.” Is it annoying to put it back together? Yes. But it gets them to not touch me for 20 minutes and they jump around and get their energy out. For this busy mama I call that a win!

So that’s what is saving my life right now. Little things that make a big difference. What is saving your life right now? Could you add any of these to your life to make your life a little easier?
